He Chose You

Holy Mary

The Blessed Virgin.  We all know her name, but how many of us know her story?  She’s not mentioned as much as you might think in the Bible, given her role in Christianity as a whole.  She did, after all, give birth to the Son of God.  But, from the Bible, we can glean much of the situation, and attempt to imagine ourselves in it.

She was young, probably a teenager, which wasn’t unusual for marriage and childbearing in those times.  Can you just imagine?  In your teens, told by a messenger of the Lord himself that you will conceive and bear a child, and not in the usual manner?  How frightening that concept must have been!

She had questions, and received but one answer, which was that her aunt Elizabeth was 6 months pregnant, despite her advanced age.  So, Mary made the choice to believe God’s angel messenger and simply said, “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.” (Luke 1: 38). and sometime later, in the city of Bethlehem, in lowly circumstances, she gave birth to the Son of God.

The Christmas story is that of a true miracle.  God had a plan, he put that plan into action through the Holy Spirit, and so it came to pass.  But perhaps the real miracle is that we, too, can share in this joy on a daily basis!

The Chosen Daughter

God didn’t pick a queen or a pharaoh.  He didn’t choose a leper or a blind woman.  He chose a normal, everyday girl.  She probably had pimples and liked to run around silly as children sometimes do.  He chose a girl betrothed to a believing young man.  And He chose them, just as he chooses us, every day.

Yes, we can learn a lot from this young girl!  With grit and determination, she bore her burden without complaint.  She travelled as she had to at that time, to the city of Bethlehem.  Just think – young, probably scared, and alone with only Joseph to lean upon physically.  She left behind everything she knew, and on a cold night, in a stable far from home, she gave birth.  What a strong young lady she’d become!

Like Mary, you don’t have to be fancy.  You don’t have to be the smartest, the fastest, or the best at anything at all.  God loves and calls on every single one of us to take up the mantle of His salvation, and guess what girl? You can do that with your business.  We only have to be willing to receive  and act, as Mary did.  Can we do it?  YES!  We can!

 He Chose You

We are strong women of God, saved by the grace of Jesus Christ Himself!  When we spend time with God in prayer, we can listen for His word to us.  We can take it as seriously and act upon it.  We can always question, like Mary – the whys and the wherefores.

We may be young in our chosen industries and feel unqualified, like Mary did in her calling.  But, as He did for Mary, so God will do for us, by giving us the wisdom and strength of the ages.  Remember in Jeremiah 29:11 where He declares, “For I know the plans I have for you… plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

In the end, we can choose to be strong, feisty, and stalwart against those who would knock us down.  From this most amazing of miracle stories, we can learn to be accepting of His fate for us, trusting in the secure knowledge that He holds us in the highest esteem.  Not because we’re perfect, but because HE IS!   Think of Ephesians 2:8, where we’re reminded that, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God”

Time to Deliver

As you act on this calling you have been fore-ordained to serve in, remember to:

  • Pay attention to HOW you question – is it to learn and understand, or to rebel and lash out?
  • Ask God to remind you of your purpose and to help you stay focused.
  • Be patient and kind with yourself.

During this Christmas season, let’s remember not only the amazing miracle of the Christ Child.  Let us also look to The Blessed Virgin, Mary herself, as an example.  An example of how to know God, how to love, how to not give up.  If she could make it at her age and in those times, then so can we.

We can carry our faith in strength and purpose.  We can trust that God himself will guide us.  We can know His enduring and all-encompassing love for us.  Because that’s the true miracle of Christmas – God sent His son so we can obtain eternal salvation .

Have a very Merry Christmas!
